A Chance to Ride Curriculum (revised)
The travel training curriculum we used was modeled after the Kennedy Center's A Chance to Ride curriculum. Read more about the history of A Chance to Ride.
Our revised curriculum consisted of 6 different learning modules. The Peer Interventionist taught each participant 1 - 2 lesson during their meetings. Participants received instruction in a classroom environment in person or virtually, followed by practicing skills in the community. The modules and their topics are below. Learning Modules used in Research Study:
1:1 Peer Supported Travel Training
Peer interventionists supported each participant to determined 2 - 3 travel goals. For example, taking the train to a favorite pizza shop. Then the pair created a detailed plan and practiced together until participant could complete trip independently. As time allowed, new goals were developed based on increasing travel readiness skills.
